MIDDLEBURY -- Jayco Inc. will be stopping operations at its facility at 621 Washington St. S. in Twin Falls, Idaho, and consolidating production into the new Hankins Road plant, the company has announced.
The move is the result of the downturn in the recreational vehicle market.
"Uncertain economic conditions have affected the market for our products to the extent that we can no longer justify operating manufacturing facilities at both the Washington Street and Hankins Road locations," Phil Geise, Jayco's vice president of operations, stated in a release. "Our current plans call for no reduction in the volume of units produced in Twin Falls but efficiencies involved by consolidation will allow us to be more competitive in the marketplace."
Most of the employees at the Washington Street plant will be transferred to the Hankins Road facility in the Jayco Industrial Park by Oct. 1, 2008, the company said. The RV maker employs 216 workers in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Geise noted "when market conditions improve," the Washington Street operation could be re-opened.
