WEST LAFAYETTE - Ross-Ade Stadium may welcome around 15,000 fans to each of its six home games this season, according to Purdue President Mitch Daniels.

Daniels testified remotely Thursday before the U.S. Senate on Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee during a hearing on how to reopen college campuses this fall. He was asked athletic-related questions about the school's plans for testing student-athletes and how many spectators will be allowed to attend home football games.

"Can't speak for any others but we are not looking at going beyond one-fourth (25 %) of the capacity of our 57,000 seat stadium right now," Daniels told the committee. "This has been mapped out just as we have mapped our classrooms and dorm rooms to measure distance and exceed the requirements."

"Outdoors is very different. It's very hard to spread this outdoors but we're still going to take an abundance of caution approach. I cannot tell you about indoor sports. Right now, I don't think I see a way that we can proceed on anything like the basis that we've all been familiar with."

Later Thursday, Purdue athletic director Mike Bobinski issued a statement saying the 25 % capacity could be adjusted.
