Indiana University has launched a new website to help communities address challenges associated with climate change.
The Environmental Resilience Institute Toolkit, also referred to as ERIT, is a publicly accessible resource with information on everything from flooding to energy-efficient streetlights. It includes case studies, recommendations and suggestions for funding sources.
ERIT is part of IU's Prepared for Environmental Change Grand Challenge Initiative. IU President Michael McRobbie announced in May 2017 the university would commit $55 million over the next five years to support the initiative that would, among other things, create a center to forecast environmental changes in Indiana and find solutions for the problems that result.
IU's Grand Challenges program, announced in 2015, aims to help solve some of the world's most pressing problems. Other projects to receive funding through IU's Grand Challenges program include the Precision Health Initiative, which takes an individualized approach to health care, and Responding to the Addictions Crisis, an initiative to address opioid addiction.
