Richmond's Blight Elimination Program celebrated a milestone this week with the 100th house being torn down.

The property that put the city's efforts at the century mark was the residence at 903 Sheridan St.

In all, 138 properties have been targeted for leveling as part of the program.

The city is receiving more than $3 million in U.S. Treasury Department funds through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority for the Blight Elimination Program. The blight elimination grant provides $15,000 per home, or $25,000 per home with a basement. If costs come in below budget, leftover money can be used toward additional demolitions.
