After what seemed like endless weeks of restrictions, Scott Gayman was looking to break out of the isolation box caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

He knew some restrictions would likely continue and that he and his wife, Merale, wouldn’t be able to travel too much this summer.

So like many other Americans, Gayman and his wife took the plunge and bought a new boat, which provides them a relatively safe way to enjoy the summer with family and friends amidst the pandemic.

So far, the experience has been positive, Gayman said while removing the cover from his new 22-foot Sweetwater pontoon that’s docked at Wyland’s Marine in Mishawaka. Depending on the mood, the couple can quietly cruise the river or move into sport mode and pull people on skis, wakeboards or tubes.

“We’ve become a lot more popular,” Gayman said. “It gives us something we can all do as a family.”
