SHIPSHEWANA — Open Range RV today reported a 31 percent growth in retail sales during the first three months of 2013, compared to one year earlier.

The company said it is looking to expand its facilities to accommodate the growth, which also will require hiring more employees.

LaGrange County Economic Development Corp. is working with Open Range RV on its expansion, but cannot comment on details for confidentiality reasons, said Keith Gillenwater, president and CEO of the economic development agency.

The April 2013 issue of RV Executive Today magazine said Open Range RV Co. has moved up to fifth place among fifth-wheel producers, replacing Coachmen in the Top 5 Rankings. The magazine said Open Range RV Co. captured 3.2 percent of the fifth wheel retail market in 2012, and is only a few units behind fourth-place Palomino, which had 3.3 percent of the market.

“It is an honor that our high-quality fifth wheels and travel trailers are being recognized as providing a customer with a great unit with exceptional amenities, and at a price that is affordable,” Randy Graber, president of Open Range RV Co., said in a news release. He said the company has experienced explosive growth.

From its founding in 2007 with just three employees, Open Range RV has grown by at least 10.5 percent per year, with it best year-to-year adjusted growth at nearly 109 percent from 2009 to 2010. Total growth for 2012 over 2011 was 17.3 percent. The company said its continued growth does not show any signs of letting up.
