Thor Industries will take over the buildings and property in Wakarusa that were formerly owned by Navistar International Corp. (SANTIAGO FLORES / South Bend Tribune / May 16, 2013)
WAKARUSA -- Workers in Wakarusa, who looked to be out of work in August, could eventually find jobs at their old workplace.
Thor Wakarusa, a subsidiary of Thor Industries, announced that it purchased the recreation vehicle production campus in Wakarusa that formerly was owned by Navistar International Corp.
In mid-May, Navistar sold the plant, which employs about 520, as well as its products to Allied Specialty Vehicles, which is owned by American Industrial Partners, a private equity firm in New York.
And Allied Specialty Vehicles then announced it was moving the operations of the Holiday Rambler and Monaco RV plants from the Wakarusa plants to Decatur, eliminating the jobs here.
But Thor's announcement could change the dynamic for Wakarusa.
