EVANSVILLE — Vanderburgh County reported 52 new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 Saturday and one death, according to the Indiana State Department of Health's statewide dashboard.
The number of new cases was down slightly from the 56 new cases reported on Friday, with 853 COVID-19 tests administered in Saturday's reporting also down from Friday's count of 993 tests.
The new data makes a total of 2,981 COVID-19 cases in Vanderburgh County since the first known case emerged on March 19, according to the ISDH.
The ISDH dashboard now offers four separate figures for positivity rates — the percentage of people tested who come up positive for COVID-19. In Vanderburgh County, the "unique individuals" positivity rate was 7.6% cumulative and 7.2% over the seven days covering Aug. 29 to Sept. 4.
An "all tests" positivity rate was 4.3% cumulatively and 2.6% over the same seven-day period.
School-age cases continue rise
A consistent steady rise in the percentage of COVID-19 cases attributable to school-age individuals continued Saturday — although Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp., the area's largest school system, will not publicly acknowledge cases in its schools.
The school-age demographic of children age 0-19 now makes up 13.8% of all COVID-19 cases in Vanderburgh County, up from 13.7% Friday. This follows a consistent two-week trend of rising cases since EVSC returned to in-person school - the number was 12.6% on Aug. 28, one day after classes resumed.
On May 21 — when Vanderburgh County had just 228 COVID-19 cases in all — just 3% involved individuals 19 or younger.
The statewide figure for the 0-19 age group also is on the rise, increasing slightly again on Saturday to 12.6%.

A total of 39,104 individuals in Vanderburgh County have tested for COVID-19 since March 11, with 51,360 total tests administered.
The number of COVID-19 cases that remain active in Vanderburgh County is no longer available. The Vanderburgh County Health Department's dashboard had been providing that number — but the local agency stopped reporting COVID-19 data in July, ceding control of all local data to ISDH. The state agency has taken over local contact tracing and case investigation but doesn't issue a number of local active cases.
The ISDH updates its online dashboard of COVID-19 data daily, including deaths, as it tracks the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
