An alarming spike in overdoses has Tippecanoe County authorities scrambling to educate the public about the familiar dangers of heroin.
The annual number of accidental overdose deaths has been climbing during the past two decades, but Coroner Donna Avolt said Friday that the county has seen a shocking number of cases in just the past seven to 10 days.
Seven people have overdosed, five of them fatally, she said.
