GREENFIELD — Five laid-off Greenfield-Central teachers have been recalled due to some lastminute teacher retirements.

The G-C board approved a personnel motion on Monday night that included a recall of Ashley Arnold, Nick Baumgart, Anthony Cory, Greg Vogel and Courtney Zellers.

G-C laid off 14 teachers in April as the district contended with a dramatic shortfall in state funding.

On Monday night, the G-C board voted to approve a formal document for a concession previ
ously discussed: a salary reduction for administrators. Each G-C administrator has agreed to take a 1 percent pay cut and a freeze in benefits for the 2010-11 school year.

The savings for the salary cut amount to about $64,000.

Gellert reaffirmed that district officials have no intention of asking for a tax referendum, as neighboring districts have. Both Southern Hancock and Mt. Vernon school boards have voted to put a property tax increase before the voters.

G-C business manager Tony Zurwell gave the board an overview Monday of the planning process for the 2011 budget.

“This year the state overtly cut $1.2 million from our general fund and has stated this is a permanent reduction that will
also affect the 2011 budget,” reads Zurwell’s budget memo. “The most consistent projection for 2011 seems to be more of the same bad news, unless the economy ramps up significantly and very shortly.”
