Recreational vehicle maker Jayco Inc. announced today it is reducing its workforce.

The cuts are "somewhat more than 250 workers," said Sid Johnson, Jayco marketing director. This includes clerical and production staff.

"We did not anticipate the RV industry downturn and this recession would be as deep and as long-term as it is going to be," Johnson said. "It's unfortunate we have to reduce our workforce to reflect the market reality."

All the workers will be laid off from the Middlebury campus. No plants will be closed.

The impacted employees were told today and are being offered job search assistance and job training help.
