Longtime local restaurant Jim Dandy will lock its doors for the last time at the end of business Monday.

Manager Sharon Sprinkle said the staff of about 20 employees and three managers was informed of the decision at a staff meeting Monday. Sprinkle said she'd worked at the restaurant since 1990.

"It's a very sad day," she said. "I'm very sad for our employees. We're going to miss our customers greatly."

Gary Sampson, vice president of marketing for JD Restaurants, said the decision to close the facility was purely economic.

He blamed the falling level of volume at the facility in recent years.

"It was not economically feasible to keep it going," he said. "We didn't want to close it at all, but we didn't see any way we could continue."

Jim Dandy restaurant, 1229 N. Baldwin Ave., opened in Marion in 1981, according to Sprinkle. The chain also has locations in Noblesville, Tipton and Greenfield, and Sampson said those locations will not be affected by this move.

The company also operates a number of Dairy Queen locations, none in Grant County.
