New IU office works to improve four- and six-year graduation rates

In February, a report using data from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the National Student Clearinghouse found that about 60 percent of IU Bloomington students graduate on time.

But graduating on time is essential so students stay competitive and have the skills and abilities they need for their careers, said Rebecca Torstrick, director of the office and assistant vice president for university academic and regional campus affairs.

“We really believe this will make a huge difference,” she said.

She said while the push is for students to graduate in four years, a six-year option is included because some students also are working 30 or 40 hours per week or have family obligations.
