The parents and community members of the Rensselaer Central Schools Corporation district have spoken – giving a vote to proceed with the new school building project.
According to the unofficial results, 2,051 voters took time to vote yes or no as to whether the corporation should enter into a lease to finance the renovation and improvements including security/safety concerns at Van Rensselaer Elementary, Rensselaer Central Middle School and Rensselaer Central High School and to construct a new primary school building.
The corporation has estimated it will cost about $14 million on the project increasing the school tax rate by a maximum of $.02278.
According to school officials, the tax rate will stay the same as the 2009 level — $.66. The current school tax for 2010 is $.57.
More than 53 percent (1091) of the voters said yes, while more than 46 percent (960) of the voters said no, according to the unofficial results.
