The Southwestern Consolidated School District of Shelby County board of directors and the school’s union have reached an agreement to offer an early retirement incentive package to a maximum of five teachers and other professional staff members.

Superintendent Terry Sargent reported that the board and representatives of Southwestern Consolidated Classroom Teachers Association agreed that the incentive offer is available to teachers and other professional staff who have worked at Southwestern since July 1, 1999. The offer is simple and will provide a cash payment of $15,000 paid directly into the staff members’ 403(b) investment accounts.

“This is a one-time offer,” Sargent added, “and we must receive written notice of their decision to retire by June 4. The deposit will be placed into their accounts as a lump sum on June 30.”
