Bill to cut Indiana assessors advances

INDIANAPOLIS - The Senate Local Government and Elections Committee narrowly approved legislation Wednesday that would move all property assessment duties to one elected auditor per county as early as this summer.

"By simplifying the system we make quality much easier to achieve," said Sen. Gary Dillon, R-Columbia City.

The 5-4 vote now sends Senate Bill 16 to the full Senate for amendments.
