The Evansville metro area has ranked among the top areas in the nation in terms of drug and pharmaceutical employment, according to a recently released report.
The report, "The Biosciences in the United States: A Regional Perspective," was written by Battelle Memorial Institute and the Biotechnology Industry Association.
In the category of "Drugs and Pharmaceuticals," the Evansville area ranked 38th overall, with a total employment in that field of 1,494. Pharmaceuticals are responsible for 80.7 percent of Evansville's bioscience employment, the report states.
The Indianapolis MSA ranked ninth in total bioscience employment, with 24,051 such jobs, according to the report.
"At the state level, we knew that Indiana was one of the leaders in life sciences employment and asset diversity," said David Johnson, president and CEO of BioCrossroads, an Indiana life sciences industry group. "And now, at the local level, we see we aren't just hoping to become competitive."
