NDIANAPOLIS - Reassessing its commercial and industrial property will be mandatory for Posey County, but reassessing residential property there will be voluntary on county officials, the governor's property-tax czar said today.
Meanwhile, Daviess, Perry and Vigo counties were among the 13 counties whose reassessments were up to standards and who will not be required to reassess again.
Cheryl Musgrave, commissioner of the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance, announced those findings today. She also said that Shelby County in central Indiana will be required to conduct a complete reassessment of its residential, commercial and industrial properties because of disparities there.
Musgrave's announcement today comes after a public hearing Monday in Mount Vernon, Ind., where Posey County officials questioned the need for an entirely new reassessment. Musgrave said today that because of contract obligations, Posey County will be allowed to continue to use the same outside appraisal firm, Appraisal Research, to conduct the new reassessment as had done the previous one.
Following the new reassessment in Posey County, property-tax bills would be adjusted up or down next year.
