RESTON, Va. -- The slowing national economy handed the recreational vehicle industry one of its worst months in years, according to data from Recreation Vehicle Industry Association.
Overall, shipments totaled 21,500 units in November, off 7.7 percent from one year earlier. This was the lowest number of shipments in five years. Shipments of towables slipped 5.7 percent in November to 18,200, while shipments of motorhomes fell 17.5 percent to 3,300 units.
In addition, the year-to-date total of 331,000 units was the lowest since 2003. Through November, 279,700 towables had been shipped, down 11.3 percent, and 51,300 motorhomes had been shipped, down 1 percent.
