It’s time to put Friday Night Lights back where they belong — in the Saturday print edition of your hometown newspaper. And that’s just what we plan to do here at the Pharos-Tribune.
With our new Weekend Edition, we will change from Sunday to Saturday publication. That means you’ll no longer receive a paper on Sunday. But, on Saturdays, you will receive the same extended publication you came to expect from us on Sundays.
Actually, you’ll be getting a better newspaper. The new Weekend Edition published on Saturdays will have an additional section and more content in news, sports and lifestyle features. In Saturday’s edition, you will continue to receive the advertiser inserts formerly distributed in Sunday’s edition.
The front news section will still have obituaries, police news, calendar of community happenings and commentary, just as you receive in the current publication. But with the newly expanded Weekend Edition, there will be more room for local news of record — food inspections, building permits, marriage licenses, tickets — and local news coverage of what’s happening in the area.
There will be additional pages in the B section to allow for extensive coverage of Friday night football and basketball games.
You’ll now find the Church Listings and Life & Style Religion pages in the Saturday C section, with an additional page of business news. All of your favorite comics and puzzles will appear in the new Saturday edition. As an added bonus, this new schedule will give you more time to finish that difficult New York Times crossword puzzle.
Our first weekend edition will publish on Saturday, Aug. 8. That day, we plan to kick off our three-day back-to-school series on the harmful role social media plays in our schools.
