SOUTH BEND -- The county police department wants to buy 18 new cars, and the prosecutor wants to buy a building.
Both departments were told last week not to be too optimistic. The county might be able to buy the cars, the commissioners said, but probably not the building.
County government will lose at least $6 million and possibly as much as $11 million as a result of the property tax reform legislation signed into law last week by Gov. Mitch Daniels.
