WASHINGTON — The publisher of the the Times Herald said Wednesday that the Washington newspaper would adjust to readership of its print and electronic products by scaling print publication back from six to five days a week.

Beginning Oct. 17, the newspaper will discontinue its Monday print edition as it continues to expand its news coverage on electronic platforms, including washtimesherald.com, the Times Herald e-Edition and the newspaper’s Facebook page.

“As many of our readers are aware, local news is posted daily on our website,” Publisher Ron Smith said. “Collectively across all platforms, the Times Herald’s audience is larger than ever. We, at the Times Herald, are finding solutions to make sure this community, which has counted on us for more than 140 years, continues to receive the quality coverage they deserve.

“There have been major changes in newspapers over the years, and never have those changes come as fast and been as exciting as they are today,” Smith said. “It’s never been easier or more accessible to get your local news.”

Smith anticipates a seamless transition to the five-day-a-week print cycle.
