GOSHEN — Beginning next month The Goshen News will adjust its print publication cycle from seven to six days a week while bolstering its online distribution of news content throughout the week.

News Publisher Jim Kroemer announced Wednesday that beginning on Nov. 15, The Goshen News will discontinue its Tuesday print edition. Print publication will continue on a Wednesday-through-Monday basis and the paper will continue to expand news coverage and advertising offerings on electronic platforms, including www.goshennews.com, the Goshen News e-edition and the newspaper’s Facebook page and Twitter feeds.

"Local news is posted to our website throughout the day, as it’s breaking," Publisher Jim Kroemer said. "Collectively, across all platforms, the Goshen News’ audience today is larger than it’s ever been. As reading habits change and evolve, we at The Goshen News are finding new ways to make sure this community, which has counted on us for nearly 175 years, continues to receive the high quality news coverage and advertising it expects and deserves."

The Goshen News traces its roots in community journalism all the way back to 1837 when The Goshen Democrat was established as a weekly newspaper. It became a daily newspaper publishing six times a week in 1897.

After several mergers and acquisitions the paper officially became The Goshen News in 1953. For the majority of its history, The Goshen News has published six days a week. It wasn’t until 1999 that The News added a seventh print publication day on Sunday.

"The newspaper business has changed dramatically over the years, and never have those changes come as fast and been as exciting as they are today," Kroemer said. "On computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones and through Facebook and Twitter, it has never been easier to find and access your local news."

Normal business hours at The News will continue on Tuesdays. Local news articles will also continue to be updated on the News website throughout the day on Tuesday and every other day. Readers can receive regular news updates by "liking" The Goshen News on Facebook or following @YourGoshenNews on Twitter.

Current print subscribers will have their subscriptions extended to compensate for the change in the publishing cycle, Kroemer added.

"Though we have seen and will continue to see change in all facets of our lives," Kroemer said, "one thing has not and will not change and that is the commitment of The Goshen News to cover our community’s news fully and fairly whether it is delivered in print or electronically."
