MUNCIE – The keystone of a planned remake of The Village commercial district is coming into greater focus.

The Ball State University-initiated development of a Performing Arts Center with an accompanying hotel designed to spur an upgrade of The Village is moving forward.

Details of the project, designed to upgrade the collection of shops and restaurants in The Village at the edge of campus were discussed Wednesday, during a meeting of the Village Review Committee of the Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Plan Commission. Randy Ruttenberg, founder of Fairmount Properties, the company guiding The Village project, and Brock Roseberry, principal in RATIO Architects discussed the plans with committee members.

The hotel planned for McKinley and University avenues will be a Hilton Tapestry brand boutique hotel, Ruttenberg said, featuring two restaurants and using parking in the McKinley Street parking garage. The Performing Arts Center will be in the same building, to the north along McKinley Avenue.

In September, Ball State University Board of Trustees reviewed design of a performing arts center and the hotel.
