Mishawaka school board hears money-saving ideas including closings, staff cuts

“This isn’t really a presentation of what will be or should be,” Barker said, “It’s a presentation of options.”

Of perhaps the most controversial, a merger with a neighboring school district, Barker said it is a “slim possibility.

The process, if another district were even interested, would be lengthy and tedious, Barker said. And, it wouldn’t wipe out Mishawaka schools’ debt.

What seems to be a more likely scenario is some combination of cuts to facilities, staffing and programming.
