TS Tech North America might create 900 jobs in New Castle as it ramps up to supply seats to the Honda Motor Co. auto assembly plant at Greensburg, according to New Castle Mayor Tom Nipp.

The Japanese company will hire 500 jobs with its first shift, then add 350 workers through a second shift. Ultimately, with truckers to shuttle the parts, total employment is likely to hit 910 in two years, Nipp said.

Additional jobs are likely to be created by small businesses to support TS Tech, Nipp said. "There's no reason to think this won't be successful," he said.

The plant will be located slightly outside city limits.

New Castle has escaped many of the automotive layoffs that have plagued Muncie, Connersville and other Indiana cities in recent years.
