INDIANAPOLIS - Legislators approved late Sunday a pair of bills focused on gambling - one giving Hoosiers more opportunities to play slots and another seeking to decrease illegal gaming in the state.

House Bill 1835, allowing slot machines at the state's two horse racing tracks, was approved in the House with a 54-44 vote; the Senate vote was 33-17. Area Sens. Robert Meeks, R-LaGrange, and David Long, R-Fort Wayne, both voted for the bill. The remaining northeast Indiana senators voted against it.
