A nine-month research effort about the factors affecting the state’s declining enrollment in higher education found a nearly 30 percentage-point gap between students who recognize the value of such schooling and those who pursue it, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education said Wednesday.

Led by consulting firm Heart+Mind Strategies, the statewide study revealed key findings about parents’ influence, a need for career coaching and overinflated perceptions about tuition costs, a news release said.
