A Columbus automotive parts maker plans to hold a job fair in Seymour in an effort to help find 115 new workers by Jan. 15.
According to a press release from the Columbus Economic Development Board, NTN Driveshaft Inc. also plans to hold a job fair in Columbus.
Improvements in the auto industry and increased demand have sparked the need for the additional workers by the company that designs and manufactures constant velocity joints for use in the automotive industry.
“The auto industry is starting to improve, and NTN is well-positioned to meet the needs of our customers,” said Barry Parkhurst, vice president of administration of NTN.
The company was founded in 1917 in Japan and first started making drive shafts in Columbus in 1980 and opened its research and development facility at Columbus the same year.
The company is looking to add 100 production and 15 engineering and maintenance positions and currently employs more than 1,300 at its plant in Woodside South Industrial Park at Walesboro.
In July of this year, the company received approval for a 10-year tax abatement from Columbus in support of a $17 million investment in new equipment to allow the company to fill orders for the new Toyota Camry.
Jim Plump, executive director of Jackson County Industrial Development Corp., said NTN’s announcement is another indication that the efforts of a 10-county region, which includes Jackson, to attract jobs are working.
