Shan Sheridan, executive director of the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, will participate in a trip to China and Japan.
Indiana state officials approached Sheridan about participating in the Midwest U.S. Japanese Conference in Tokyo later this year.
“One thing I’ve found in this position is that it is important to build relationships and continue relationships,” Sheridan said.
Frankfort’s industrial park has three Japanese-based businesses – NTK, NHK Seating and Vicks Metal. Also, Clinton County finished second in vying for Nanshan America Co. Ltd, which selected a site in Lafayette.
“We came in second to Lafayette in getting that project,” Sheridan said. “However, in continuing that relationship with (Nanshan American President) Lijun Du, we feel that there are other opportunities there in the future to bring in more businesses, and even bring headquarters, to the Midwest and especially Frankfort.”
Sheridan approached the Clinton County Council for the funding necessary for the trip – which was estimated to be $12,000-$15,000.
The trip would occur in mid-September, and include Sheridan visiting with representatives of the three Japanese-based companies in Frankfort.
The county council gave Sheridan a unanimous consensus that they would fund the trip, though, the official vote would come at a later date after meeting advertising requirements.
