More than 30,000 Hoosiers entered a lottery to secure a job at Honda and those who get selected finally know what the payoff will be.

Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN) will employ a progressive pay system. New production associates will join the team earning $14.84 an hour. From there, pay automatically increases, over a 24-month period, to $18.55 hourly.

"They are pretty steady increases and they come automatically," Honda spokesperson David Iida said.

Honda of Indiana will also offer performance bonuses and health benefits to its 2,000 production associates. Performance bonuses are doled out annually and are tied to both the company's performance and an individual's job acuity.

"The performance bonuses can be significant and vary from year to year," Iida said.

He also spoke on the rest of the incentives.

"The benefits package will include a full complement of medical, dental, life insurance and 401K. As an associate's experience grows, and you add onto the base pay with bonuses and benefits, we will create a very competitive incentive package within the industry," Iida said.

It has not been announced as to who the company will use as its medical insurance provider.

Each of Honda's new plants are started as their own individual companies. This allows the corporation to fine tune things as it grows. It also should have given prospective employees an estimate of what the Indiana jobs would pay, according to Iida.

"We pick up the best practices from our other plants, like Ohio and Alabama, but then craft our own team and create a unique organization," Iida said. "I think most people had a pretty good, or at least a general, idea of what the jobs would pay or so many of them wouldn't have wanted to work here. I think everyone will find this represents a very competitive package."

Honda is still sorting through the 30,296 application received. The first production associate interviews should be held in November. Honda has already hired a handful of people from its initial job posting for specific, non-production associate jobs.

The Greensburg Plant is scheduled to begin production on 200,000 Civic sedans in the fall of 2008.
