ELKHART — Elkhart and Goshen are ranked as the top job creators in the state near tops in the nation, according to a new study.

A financial news and opinion publication, 24/7 Wall St., has ranked the Elkhart-Goshen Metropolitan Statistical Area 10th in the nation on its list of "American Cities Adding the Most Jobs." It was the only Indiana area to be ranked in the top 10.

Metropolitan Statistical Areas are geographic entities used by federal statistical agencies in collecting, tabulating and publishing federal statistics.

Mayor Tim Neese said the study highlights the way Elkhart County understands the direct impact economic development has on local families.

"For every job that is created, there is a family on a path to a more stable financial future,” Neese said in a statement. “A strong collaboration between the public and private sector and economic development officials, has created the type of environment that encourages business investment and expansion."

The study reviewed data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau over a four-year period. According to the study, the Elkhart-Goshen area was home to 87,822 jobs in June 2012. That number rose to more than 100,000 in June 2016, an increase of 14 percent.
