Wagering revenue at Hoosier State casinos grew in August compared to last year despite a dip at three of the four gaming establishments in Northwest Indiana.

Data released Friday by the Indiana Gaming Commission show Indiana casinos tallied $220.2 million in August win — or revenue after paying successful bettors — a 2.4% increase versus the $215 million in statewide win for August 2024.

As usual, Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana bested its 12 Indiana competitors for a 46th consecutive month with $36.2 million in August win.

While that was down 5.1% from its August 2024 win of $38.1 million, Hard Rock still single-handedly accounted for more than 16% of the statewide total win last month, according to the IGC.

Data show much of the year-over-year growth in statewide win was due to a surge in baccarat betting at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond.

Last month, Horseshoe saw $25 million in wagers placed at its baccarat tables. That was well above its usual monthly baccarat drop of $6 million to $9 million, and nearly matched the $27.4 million in August baccarat bets placed at Hard Rock.

The additional play helped Horseshoe notch an August win of $27.3 million — a 32.1% increase compared to its $20.6 million win for August 2024.

Hard Rock, meanwhile, remained the state leader for slot machine play with $270.6 million in August, along with a state-best slot win of $26.7 million.

The Steel City casino also led the state for August table game play with $44.8 million. But Hard Rock's $9.5 million in table win was slightly behind Horseshoe's $10.4 million for the month, according to the IGC.

Elsewhere in the Region, monthly win at Ameristar Casino in East Chicago dropped by 9% to $13.7 million in August compared to $15.1 million for the same month in the prior year.

Win at Blue Chip Casino, in Michigan City, also fell to $11.3 million versus $11.7 million last August, a decline of 3.5%, data show.

Across the state line, Wind Creek Chicago Southland Casino, located on the border of Homewood and East Hazel Crest, Illinois, saw its adjusted gross receipts decline on a month-over-month basis for the second time since opening in November 2024, with its August win equivalent falling to $17.1 million — a 9% drop compared to its $18.8 million in July revenue.

That drop may have been due in part to the Aug. 11 opening of the new Hollywood Casino in Joliet that collected $11.2 million in win from more than 101,000 guests during its first, partial month of operations, according to the Illinois Gaming Board.

Data shows Indiana's online and retail sports wagering handle was $361.1 million last month, compared with $307.9 million in August 2024. The all-time monthly record for sports bets in Indiana is $614.4 million, set in November 2024.

In total, Indiana in August collected in $37.3 million in tax revenue from slot machine and table game play, and $4.3 million from settled sports wagers, according to the IGC.
