Indiana school districts fear tax reform plan's impact

INDIANAPOLIS -- School superintendents said the proposed circuit breaker caps on property taxes could put their districts near bankruptcy and put the education of children in urban districts at a serious disadvantage.

School systems would lose a projected $173 million statewide in 2009 and $171 million in 2010 if the property tax caps are enacted. The circuit breakers caps would be 1 percent for residential properties, 2 percent for rentals and 3 percent on businesses.
