HANCOCK COUNTY - Mt. Comfort Airport will receive $2.2 million to repair a taxiway as part of $4.4 million in federal economic recovery funds going to four Indiana airports.

"It's great news," said Dennis Maloy, executive director of Hancock Economic Development Council. "Enhancing Mt. Comfort only improves the overall attractiveness of Mt. Comfort as a business location."

Having a nearby airport gives companies the convenience of flying in company executives, customers or business partners from other locations, Maloy said.

A request for design proposals document for the Mt. Comfort project describes a two-year project to reconstruct 10-inch concrete pavement on Taxiway A. It includes a schedule that lists construction completion in late November 2010.

Businesses like Freije Treatment Systems have moved to Mt. Comfort in recent years, continuing the momentum of the area's growth. Economic development experts cite the area's location near Interstate 70 and the airport as part of the allure.
