Gibson County still among lowest in jobless rates for April 2008

INDIANAPOLIS - Preliminary estimates from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development show Gibson County's jobless rate down six tenths of a percent from March to April.

That ranks Gibson County 77th lowest among the state's 92 counties, and nearly a full point better than the statewide unemployment rate of 4.7 percent.

According to the state agency's report Friday, Gibson County's jobless rate was estimated at 3.9 percent in April, compared to a statewide average of 4.7 percent, with Daviess County's rate the lowest at 3 percent, and Fayette County's rate the highest at 9.6 percent.

Neighboring counties of Posey and Warrick recorded 3.9 percent unemployment last month, while the jobless rate in Knox County was 3.7 percent, and 4.4 percent in Vanderburgh and Pike counties.

In March, Gibson County's jobless rate was 4.5 percent, compared to a state average 5.6 percent unemployment rate, the agency reported. Hamilton County's 3.6 percent unemployment rate was the lowest that month, and Fayette County's jobless rate was the highest at 10.9 percent.

Neighboring Warrick County jobless numbers were at 4.5 percent, while Knox County recorded a 4.4 percent jobless rate, Posey County jobless rates were at 4.6 percent, Vanderburgh County unemployment was at 5 percent and Pike County's jobless rate was at 5.1 percent.
