Indiana University Columbus is now accepting applications through April 1 for its accelerated nursing program.
The program offers students who hold a bachelor’s degree in another discipline the opportunity to earn a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree in 18 months. Classes start each May and run through December of the following year.
Students with varied academic backgrounds, including kinesiology, biology, public health, criminal justice, psychology, and general studies are currently enrolled in the program, according to the university.
“Students with backgrounds in STEM fields, social sciences or humanities can contribute a lot to the health sciences,” Caroline Sims, Assistant Dean for the IU School of Nursing at IU Columbus said in a news release. “Most importantly, nursing is a rewarding, sought-after field offering our graduates numerous opportunities and fulfilling careers ahead of them.”
According to the Indiana Hospital Association, Indiana will need about 5,000 more nurses by 2031, and the current average yearly wage for nurses across the state is $75,580 per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
