Public investments are preparing Henry County for more possible growth.

At their February meeting, Henry County Council members heard how new housing projects, park improvements and even arts and culture projects are helping the local economy.

EDC update

Corey Murphy, president of the New Castle-Henry County Economic Development Corp. (EDC), gave a presentation on local Regional Economic Acceleration Development Initiative (READI) investment plans.

The document showcased community projects, including infrastructure improvements to Memorial Park’s 4-H Center, industrial park water and sewer upgrades, and residential projects at Ashbury Fields and Brookfield Farms, respectively adding 65 and 85 homes to the community. Local match sources for the plan included $2.4 million in food and beverage funds and $1.7 million in redevelopment commission (RDC) funds.

According to the report, the READI investment leverages $5.2 million into $34 million of total investment for the city and county.

“I’m just really thrilled to see all the homes,” County Councilmember Chad Malicoat said to Murphy. “You know, I’ve been talking to you about this for a long time. That’s definitely something [that] is much needed in this community.”

Murphy concluded his time with the council by also sharing a Forge East Central Indiana (Forge ECI) document which highlighted key plans to bolster the region’s arts and culture offerings. He expressed the opportunity for fundraising and encouraged the council to research the matter further.
