Record numbers of people chose city buses as their mode of transportation in 2011.

Bloomington Transit saw record ridership levels in 2011 with about 3.41 million rides on its 46 buses, eclipsing last year’s record by about 4.5 percent. The transit organization has seen its ridership increase steadily since it offered roughly 350,000 rides in 1984.

“You won’t see many transit systems that have that track record, a 10-fold increase in 27 years,” Bloomington Transit general manager Lew May said.
