SEYMOUR - Local jobs are not expected to be affected by Home Products International Inc. filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Last week's filing is part of HPI's business restructuring plan, a spokeswoman said.

"It really doesn't have any impact at this point" on the ironing board plant in Seymour, said Doreen Lubeck, an HPI representative.

Annual sales for the business peaked in 2000 at $297 million.

Costly materials and low-price competition from Asia has been blamed for the company's recent decline.
