  • In 2000, Bartholomew County had the 15th-highest median household income in Indiana. Two years later, it was ranked 19th.

    In that same span, Johnson, Brown, Shelby, Decatur and Jackson counties’ rankings improved. Jennings County’s fell by four.

  • Bartholomew County’s per capita personal income grew by 1.6 percent between 2000 and 2003, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

    The county fell from seventh-highest to 11th-highest in PCPI in the state.

    Among the contiguous counties, only Johnson and Brown counties fared worse.

  • Bartholomew County lost 5.2 percent of its jobs between 2000 and 2004, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics. Only Decatur County fared worse.

    Bartholomew County’s labor force, defined as all people at least 16 years old who are either employed or unemployed, fell 3.4 percent between in that span, again better than only Decatur County.
