RICHMOND — Wayne County hasn't had a new reported case of hepatitis A since December, continuing a steady decline in the spread of the disease since an outbreak spiked last summer.
At its worst in July and August, the county was averaging 14 new confirmed cases of hepatitis A a week. That dropped to 6-7 a week in September and about three every seven days in October.
The decline has continued since then, with an average of 1.5 new confirmed cases over the past six weeks.
Indiana health officials keep track of the latest outbreak statistics on the state health department's website, and Wayne County still leads all other Hoosier counties with 142 confirmed cases of hepatitis A since the state began tracking the outbreak in November 2017.
