Terra Group owner says Elkhart and Goshen factories may not close

Terra Group may end up not closing any plants in Elkhart and Goshen, the company's owner said.

Several media outlets reported last week the RV supplier was planning to close plants in Goshen, Nappanee and Riverside, Calif., because of the slumping economy.

Terra Group owner Steve Brenneman said in an e-mail dated Sept. 27 that may not be the case. An update may be available in about a week, he said.

"Things are up in the air right now," Brenneman said in the message. "There may be no closings after all."

Terra Group is one of several RV manufacturers and suppliers based in Elkhart and nearby counties, including Monaco Coach, Sundowner Trailers and others, to announce plant closures and layoffs.

Terra Group makes RV and transit components and aluminum extrusion, including RV doors and cargo awnings.
