Fall enrollment increased by 2% at public colleges statewide, breaking a decade-plus streak of dwindling degree-seekers and prompting the Indiana Commission for Higher Education to cheer.

“We were delighted,” Commissioner Chris Lowery said, adding this marked the first increase in 13 years.

The degree-seeking headcount totaled 244,639 – nearly 5,000 more students than the previous fall, according to the statewide fall census of public two- and four-year institutions.
