Two Wabash Valley solar-power arrays were energized this week by Vaughn Industries, an engineering, procurement and construction contractor from Carey, Ohio.
One that went live Wednesday is located on the north side of U.S. 150 between New Goshen and Shirkieville in western Vigo County. The other, located near Northview High School in Clay County, was completed Monday.
Brian Tschanen, division manager for Vaughn Industries, said that each array contains slightly more than 42,000 panels and each sits on 40 to 58 acres of land.
"They are feeding into Duke Energy's power grid, and they'll service as generational facilities throughout the area," Tschanen told the Tribune-Star in a phone interview Wednesday. "They'll produce enough energy to service about 500 homes per year."
Tschanen said the owner of the sites is Cypress Creek Renewables, which is based in Santa Monica, Calif. "This interties with Duke Energy," he added.
Tschanen said the construction process for each array took about two months.
"We engineered the whole system," he said. "We designed them and built them."
Vaughn Industries hopes to get started on a solar-panel array in Sullivan County next year.
