A carton of eggs could cost a few cents more. The price of pork chops may rise.

Consumers may see their grocery bills climb as a growing share of Indiana’s corn crop is used to produce fuel instead of food, a Purdue University professor said.

A growing portion of the corn planted in farmers’ fields is being used to produce ethanol, an alternative vehicle fuel. Two plants in Indiana are producing ethanol, and 15 more are proposed or under construction.
