ANDERSON — The Anderson City Council has approved tax abatements for a future Old Dominion truck terminal.
The council Thursday voted unanimously to approve a six-year tax abatement at 60% each year.
Scannell Properties is planning to build the truck terminal on 27 acres on the northeast corner of Layton Road and West 67th Street.
The company is planning a $20 million investment in the construction of the truck terminal after it completed a $30 million investment in the same area for the Corteva warehouse and distribution center.
The truck terminal will be a 32,810-square-foot facility with 60 doors. There are plans for a second phase that will add an additional 20 doors.
The submitted site plan shows parking for 74 employees and up to 152 trucks, with the second phase expected to add parking for an additional 38 employees and another 50 trucks.
Greg Winkler, executive director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, said the terminal is expected to employ 22 people with an annual payroll of $1.4 million.
He said the company will pay $3.6 million in property taxes over the next decade.
The council approved three-year tax abatements for Chesterfield Management to open a Mexican restaurant and coffee shop on North Broadway.
The restaurant will locate in the former Pizza Hut building and the coffee shop will be housed in a former bank building.
The restaurant is expected to create eight to 10 jobs with an hourly pay rate of $13 to $18 per hour.
“I’m glad to see the building being used as a restaurant,” Winkler said.
