ANDERSON — Anderson City Council has approved tax abatements for the planned expansion of two local companies.
Council passed the resolutions Thursday, granting both companies — FITT USA and Unified Group Services — six-year 70% tax abatements.
Greg Winkler, executive director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, said the 70% tax abatement was offered because the companies are expanding.
Just months after its official grand opening, FITT USA is adding on. The Italian company that owns FITT USA has invested $30 million in the Anderson facility, which was built on a former General Motors property along Raible Avenue. Sixty people are employed at the facility.
The company plans an $8.2 million expansion that would employ an additional 30 people with a starting salary of $21.71 per hour.
Winkler said the company is currently designing the 8,000-square-foot expansion, with work expected to start in March.
Emilio Padoan, FITT USA plant manager, said the qualified workforce in Anderson has allowed growth in production.
“We’re taking some business from Illinois and bringing it to Anderson,” he said. “We continue to grow.”
FITT USA purchased the property in 2023 for $200,000 from the RACER Trust, which was formed to sell former GM properties on brownfield sites in Anderson and across 14 states.
The company produces a variety of plastic hoses and has sold $50 million in products to companies in the United States. FITT USA plans to add as many as 90 jobs in Anderson by 2027.
The company receives the raw material for its products from Anderson-based Sirmax, which is also located on a former GM property.
Unified Group Services on 67th Street is planning a $4.1 million expansion with the construction of a twostory, 18,000- square-foot facility. The company plans to add 115 jobs with a starting salary of $21.63 per hour.
The proposal calls for an additional 120 parking spaces on the site that was recently annexed into the city.
“This is a business that has been growing and is growing again,” Winkler said.
Unified Group Services was recognized by the Indiana Business Journal as the best in the state at managing employee health insurance benefits.
The company has 190 employees and is the title sponsor of the annual Little 500 sprint car race at Anderson Speedway.
