An Edinburgh industrial coatings business is expanding in the new year after acquiring an Ohio facility.
Beacon Industries, Inc. entered into an agreement with Electro Prime Group, LLC effective Jan. 1 to acquire all assets of Electro Prime’s industrial coatings facility in Rossford, Ohio. It is Beacon Industries’ second acquisition after acquiring a business in New Castle after it went out of business around 2016-17 and will be the company’s first acquisition out of state.
Electro Prime provides metal parts assembly, E-coat and powder coat services and shared a customer with Beacon Industries. Both companies were invited to come together and have a conversation about the acquisition, said Chris Sparks, president and CEO of Beacon Industries.
“We felt that we would be a really good upgrade, and Electro Prime has also been in business many, many years, kind of centrally located … right on the Ohio-Michigan border, right in the center of all the automotive manufacturing in Detroit and Monroe,” he said.
Sparks said his first introduction with Electro Prime Group was with the owners, who he said seemed like “very ethical men that had integrity.”
“They wanted to do the right thing for their company,” he said. “They wanted the right thing for their people and that was some of the conditions of the acquisition. It was a lot less discussion about selling price and it’s like how are you going to take care of our people?”
When Beacon Industries’ staff met Electro Prime Group’s staff, Sparks said it was a match and Electro Prime Group was “very welcoming” and had “a very high caliber staff.” Electro Prime Group employees are able to keep their jobs with Beacon Industries.
“They wanted to grow and they wanted to develop and they wanted to continue to expand their boundaries,” Sparks said. “That’s also our mission, so it was a really good fit and the synergy between the two organizations is going to be amazing.”
Electro Prime Group’s owners Kevin Meade and John Lauffer said the acquisition will be positive for its employees, customers and vendors, according to a press release on the acquisition. Meade and Lauffer intend to focus on the operation of the company’s automotive parts assembly business in Toledo, Ohio.
For Beacon Industries, Sparks said the acquisition will allow the company to move products back and forth, which will help it serve a large part of Indiana and parts of Ohio and Southern Michigan. He also said the company will capture more market shares, improve process controls at its locations, continue to expand operations in Indiana and gain more market share of OEM manufacturers. Beacon Industries has its corporate headquarters and coating operations facility in Edinburgh and a coating facility in New Castle.
For employees of Electro Prime Group, Sparks believes the acquisition will offer them a very engaged owner of the company that likes to continually improve, upgrade and strive for higher levels of performance.
Employees at Beacon Industries have been making routine trips to the Electro Prime Group’s facility and helping install software and computers to “get people up to speed, integrate the two systems together,” Sparks said. Electro Prime Group associates will be visiting Indiana as well.
Sparks anticipates that Beacon Industries will continue to grow in the coming years.
