CEDAR LAKE — A recovering housing market has led to a rebound in building permits this year, Town Administrator Jill Murr said.
The number of permits came in at 146 last month, up 20 from last year. Like most communities in the Region, Cedar Lake saw new building slow to a crawl after the housing crash of 2008. However, a new development has been proposed and existing subdivisions have shown new life as developers work on building them out.
Murr also touched on the water situation for a proposed development when she talked about new pump proposals for Robin’s Nest subdivision.
The development of Lakeside subdivision, proposed for a site near Lemon Lake County Park and Robin’s Nest, has been stalled due to the lack of a safe water source. A test well drilled in the area showed high levels of hydrogen sulfide. A cleaning system could be put in place, but at a considerable cost to both the town and the developer.
The possibility of installing a standing water tower also has been discussed. Robin’s Nest has been deemed to be inadequate for Lakeside subdivision, but if new well pumps are added the utility would be able to service a limited new number of homes, including 26 houses on the east side of Fairbanks.
